What happens in an Art Therapy Session (With me)?

Welcome to my art therapy sessions, a safe space for self-expression and healing.

Here’s what you can expect:

1. Introduction and Grounding: The session will begin with a brief introduction, where I will explain the goals and structure. You’ll be invited to take a few deep breaths to ground yourself.

2. Material Selection: You’ll have the opportunity to choose from a variety of art materials such as paints, markers, clay, or collage supplies, depending on what resonates with you.

3. Main Creative Activity: I will present a more focused art task related to your therapeutic goals. This could involve creating a self-portrait, expressing a specific emotion through art, or building a collage of meaningful images.

4. Process Focus: As you create, the emphasis will be on the process rather than the final product. You’ll be encouraged to let your thoughts and feelings flow onto your artwork.

5. Reflection and Discussion: After the main activity, there will be time to reflect on your creation. You can share your thoughts and feelings about the process and the artwork if you feel comfortable.

6. Therapeutic Dialogue: I will ask questions to help you delve deeper into the meaning behind your art, facilitating a therapeutic dialogue that can provide insights and emotional release.

7. Closing and Grounding: The session will conclude with a grounding exercise to help you transition back to your daily life. This might involve deep breathing, a short meditation, or a simple creative activity.

8. Takeaway: You may take your artwork with you or leave it for future sessions, depending on your preference and the therapeutic process.
